The Oak Cliff Art Walk

The Oak Cliff Art Walk was such an experience! I’ve been to art shows before, but never like this. For starters, the location has history. The East Dock is a historic 1915 warehouse. Originally built as an ice house, East Dock later served as an airplane manufacturing facility and a book factory. After sitting vacant for over a decade, it’s now being revitalized into a home for local businesses and organizations.

It’s close to a Dart station, which came in handy. I’m not sure if it was intentional, but because the vendors occupied the parking spaces, we had to park in a weird spot. I’m going to assume it was extra land left over from the land purchased by Dart. Either way, we found a spot, and the car was safe when we returned.

Now, I did not get pictures of the food vendors, and I’m just going to blame this on my 5 year old. I had every intention of getting pictures, after I looked at the art, because we would buy food. However, my son started acting out, and before I let him embarrass me, we left, and got McDonald’s. Hey! “It be like that sometimes”.

I also did not get a photo of every piece of art. This was intentional because I was there for an experience and did not want to have my phone out the entire time. I was sure to take photos of the ones I thought was cool, spoke to me, or made me stand a little longer to look. My goal is to take you on the journey with me, so you can picture it as if you were at the walk with me. Cool? Okay, Boom!

After we parked in the tight ass spot, we headed to the art walk. Before entering, there we saw our first piece of art. I’m not sure if it was even a part of the show, but it caught my eye. You would think that the colors and the shapes would make the piece complicated to the eye. However, it caught my attention because it all worked so well together and I had questions. How long did this crochet project take? How were you able to have it sit in place? Did you get a massage afterwards? I’ve thought about taking up crocheting, but it looks hell a time consuming. This piece was still pretty cool.

Upon entrance, Pegasus Creative Reuse had a still life drawing space. This was really neat. They offered all of the materials for you to create your art. All they ask is that you tag them, so they can see what you created. I really enjoyed the space because it gave me a chance to sit with my babies and draw. Because you obviously cannot touch the art, this was a great hands on experience.

The art can speak for itself, or you can let me know what you think about it in the comments!
